Having closed in 1902 the Theatre Royal was adapted and reopened its doors in 1912 as the Tivoli Theatre. Arthur Lucan, whose best known character was Old Mother Riley, died on stage at the theatre on Monday 17 May 1954. The Tivoli Theatre closed as a theatre in 1954 but was used for a short time as a cinema until it closed in September 1954. The building was demolished in 1959.
