Special Collection items in Hull Local Studies Library: Collection of Gillyat Sumner - Poulson's Holderness Collection

Three of four reported volumes (though it is unclear as to the whereabouts of volume 4) were acquired by Hull Libraries. A fifth volume was possibly acquired by Hull Libraries, consisting of Poulson's own letters relating to his history which was in the hands of a local collector, who agreed to part with the volume should it be added to the set in which it originally belonged.
Described in the Eastern Morning News (article pasted in volume dated 7 Feb 1922) as containing the original MSS (manuscripts) of the history and antiquities of the Seigniory of Holderness in the East Riding, including the abbeys of Meaux and Swine and the boroughs of Nunkeeling and Burstwick, compiled by G. Poulson. The manuscripts in various hands, and written at various times and contain letters and original documents of interest and value relating to Holderness.

A total of six volumes were reported to have been purchased, though only three at present are those of Poulson's manuscripts relating to his history of Holderness. A further five volumes can be found in this series, previously compiled and in the possession of Gillayt Sumner. See item level descrptions for further details.
