Dates:
c.1879
Description:

Newspaper cuttings from 12 Mar 1928 [Hull Daily Mail]. Accompanying text - "Carr Lane , Hull, in the 'seventies. In the collection of old Hull views now on exhibition in the new room at Wilberforce House is the interesting view of Carr-lane, reproduced herewith. The original is a large water colour by F. N. Pettingell and dated 1879, who was also responsible for the Perspective View of Hull, published in 1880. The picture of Carr-lane shows the Alabama Inn at the corner of Chariot -street, and on the opposite side of the road Reynolds' saddlery shop, and there is also a hostelry in the position where there is still one to-day. Messrs Jarman and Flint's and other buildings were not then erected, and Carr-lane was evidently paved with granite sets and has no tram lines."
