Peter has returned to town broke after a disagreement with the ship's chef. Ned has a contract for supplying and erecting telegraph posts between Thames and Tauranga and expects a bonus for his part in dealing with the Maori. Is in a bad way financially. Hunter has been whitewashed and still has most of the land.
