Dates:
1640s
Description:
Encloses an order according to Sir John's wishes, but the Houses were concerned that the stay of these gentlemen in Hull who were intended for service in Lincoln might be prejudicial to the latter, so advises him to use the order with wisdom. The Houses have heard of the great meeting at York and are much affected by the carriage of Lords Lindsey and Savill, who so violently hindered the Country's petition, and 'not a little sensible of the rescueing of Mr. Bethwick'. They are apprehensive of the danger to King, Kingdom and Parliament by reason of dangerous counsels and will provide the best they can to keep the peace, 'which I assure you is their principell ayme'. The kingdom of Scotland have carried themselves resolutely at Edinburgh.
