Description:
William Thompson held the office from 9 November 1714 - May 1729, when he exchanged commissions with Henry Cartwright, a Commissioner of the Victualling Office. Shortly afterwards it was discovered that some of the Stamp Duty clerks had been embezzling. The case is an attempt to fix the responsibility on either W.T. or H.C.
