Description:
For a claim for homage of the Archbishop of York (20 September 1430); the claim for homage; and the verdict of the Archbishop's court in Beverley that the manor of Pighill with 30ac. was held of the Archbishop, paying 6s. 8d. yearly to the manor of Burton for all suits and services. Copies of deeds of Thomas Ross are given, as follows: a) Gift: Isabell daughter of Hugh de Bilton to Richard son of Philip Carter ('Caretarii') of Beverley: a cultivated parcel in Molscroft (between le Kerdihe and Kembelsterdihe, and between lands of William son of William of Molscroft and of Henry son of Olbert. Rendering 12d. yearly to Thomas son of John Lerus. Witn. Philip London, William Clement then bailiff of the Archbishop, William London, Adam Inglebord, Roger Carter ('Caretario') John le Cris, Hugh de Driffeud, Andrew Matfray, Geoffrey de Stainton, Gilbert de Snaiht, Peter de Neubald, William Penifot, Thomas del Clay, (estimated date 13th century) b) Confirmation: Walter, Archbishop of York to Richard Carter ('Caretario) burgess of Beverley: messuage he bought from Roger de la Wodhall. Rendering 1/2 mark silver yearly. Witn. Given at Walton Thurs before St. Martin 1259, (estimated date 7 November 1259) c) Gift: Roger son of Sir William de Lawdhalle to Richard son of Philip Carter ('caretarii') burgess of Beverley: 4 bovates in Molscroft (between lands sometime of Roger de Molscroft 'banyatoris' of St. John of Beverley and sometime of Nicholas of Cornwall ('Cornubiensis') of the same fee). A riding ('Rydyngga') in Molscrofte field with the ditches round it (Bernystrubbe and Lumbardhenge S.; Fairfaxryddyngge, which the said Richard now possesses, and the common marsh of Molescroft N.; a riding of the donor held by John le Franzays W.; common way called Beverlegate coming from Mentatholme and running through the middle of Molscroft marsh at Herghes E.). A selion and ditch from Kembesterdyk to Liverdyk (which Richard may ditch towards the S). An annual rent of 6s. which Richard ought to pay to the donor for 4 bovates in Molscroft field (i.e. 4s. for 2 bovates sometime held by Philomena; 2s. for 1 bovate sometime held by Gilbert de Watton; and 2s. for 1 bovate sometime held by Alice daughter of Richard de Herghes).
