- His chief messuage, parcel ('place') called le Park, parcel of meadow called le Frith with - of hay ('bouez de feyne') or the value, and 20 bovates in the town & field of Sywardby. With carts, ploughs, horses, beasts, sheep, equipment ('hustlement'), vessels and other necessaries comprised in an annexed indenture between them: The land to be left well sown with good seed, and properly sown according to the seasons and weeded, with each kind of grain and for as many acres as when J.B. brought them into cultivation before the date of the lease, with all the above beasts & goods; and to be restored at the feast of St. Margaret in the 5th year with the meadows, houses, closes for as much land manured, ploughed & reploughed or as many days ploughing ('ardaghs') as when taken to lease. J.B. to maintain the houses and closes, except main beams ('horspris mereygn'); and to assign to Sir John a chamber in the house and a stable for his coming & going. And at what hour the court of Sir John shall be appointed during the term, J.B. shall cause the court to be summoned, receive the seneschal for the day, and do all necessary for a court. J.B. to give Sir John 148 quarters of wheat and barley in equal portions and 12 quarters of oats when the corn has been threshed, out of the grange, which corn belonged to Sir John. Given at Sywardby, Wed. after Mich. 1 Ric.II. Attached is a Schedule of beasts, goods and chattels received by John Bacon, Thomas son of Robert and John de Gemblyng of Sywardby, further to the lease.
