In dispute referred to them by justices at York Assizes, between Margaret, Lady Boynton, widow and William Wysk and Christopher Walker, churchwardens of Barmeston, of the one part, and Richard Cooke hermit of the other 'for certain landes and dett and other misdemanors' specified in R.C.'s bill of complaint: R.C.'s complaints are malicious and groundless, and he must ask parden of Lady Boynton and the churchwardens (which he has done on the making of the deed). Sums in variance to be due to the church of Barmeston and not R.C. Lands purchased of Stephen Chauncy of Scowcotz near Hull and of Robert Jakson and wife Margery in Tonstall in Holderness by Martyn Boynton, esq. to be to the use of the church of Barmeston. Lands purchased of John Stabler of Tonstall to be to the use of the prior of Mountgrace: Seals (i) of Hull Charterhouse, vesica; a standing mailed figure sword in hand and with a shield bearing a cross, abova a dragon; beneath, a shield, a fess, with the letter 'M' superimposed, between 3 roundels; 'SCE, MIK(orH?) EALL, ORA, PRO, NO(BIS)'. (ii) a griffon's head in a lozenge (Sir J.C.). (iii) indecipherable (W.T.) (4) 'W' (E.D.)
