Dates:

Description:
Professor J.R. 'Dick' Watson came to know Jones when he went as a lecturer to Leicester in 1966. Her great friend at the time was John Ellis, who left to go to Edinburgh after Watson had been there for one term, and in many ways Watson took his place in her affections as a congenial colleague. They became very close over twelve years. Watson moved to Durham in 1978 to take up a post at Durham University. Watson's wife, Pauline, was a doctor, a GP, and towards the end of their time in Leicester she became Jones' doctor for a short time. Watson and his wife had three children, David, Rachel, and Elizabeth. Elizabeth was Jones' favourite because she was the middle child and she thought that middle children got overlooked. An article written by Watson regarding his connection to Jones can be found in Issue No.11 of the Journal of the Philip Larkin Society, About Larkin [U DPLS]. Note: Artificial file created to hold loose letters from same individual.
