- Reference to a visit to Jones 'fine little house' [at Haydon Bridge], Ernest remarking that Jones is one of the best cooks that he has been exposed to, trip down was fine, loved Allendale and the wild moors of Weardale and Teesdale, stayed off A1 until after Ripon, had tea at Southwell, tickets with Jean and Arthur for The Knack, hopes the theatre group can find a theatre to stay on, a lunch prepared for them by Jones, took films in and will have prints made if they are good, had an hour with the Frasers on Saturday morning then to London to see Dr and Mrs Rose, tried M1 for the first time, hopes that Jones will visit them in London and asks her to tell Philip [Larkin] to do the same if he comes up, Ernest sends love.
