- Reference to death of Philip Larkin, expresses sorrow, in last personal letter writer received from Larkin he said how marvellously Jones had looked after him, writer having lived in Hull and taken over Larkin's flat at Drinkwaters, Cottingham Road, Larkin's mother would have been relieved that Jones was with him and had said to the writer that her dearest wish was to see him married to Jones, had posted a reply to Larkin's last letter before hearing the news of his death, will try to attend the memorial service in Hull, writer's daughter sends her sympathy, objects to characterisations of Larkin in the press as 'shy and withdrawn' as he 'was always so friendly, easy to talk to and above all, funny', no need to reply, Betty will write, Maeve may write but the writer finds her letters 'odd and subjective', has thought of Jones very much and hopes the people around her will help.
