Description:
Hardbound volume containing signed manuscript minutes of the Clerical Sub-Committee of the Missions to Seamen. Minutes relate to applications, appointments, wages, expenses, equipment, etc. and reference named individuals applying for and appointed to the posts of chaplain and lay reader. Pasted into the front of the volume are the following: manuscript list of 'Books for Readers' Study'; typescript notice 'Missions to Seamen Society. Duties of the Superintendent of Missions.'; typescript notice 'Revised Instructions to Superintendents.'; typescript notice 'Examinations of Scripture Readers' dated 1886 and revised version dated 1903. Note that the first pages of the volume contain a manuscript index to the minutes, alongwith extracted resolutions relating to the Clerical Sub-committee made at Committee meetings. Enclosed after the extracted resolutions and before the first minutes are the following notes: manuscript note 'Prayer Book'; manuscript note 'Scripture Questions 1899'; manuscript draft petition to the Trustees; typescript advert 'Six Clergymen Wanted At Once', 1896.
