Handwritten letter signed, finished on 20 February 1951. Philip Larkin to James Sutton, writing from Belfast.
- Reference No:
- U DP174/2/210
- Dates:
- 10 Feb 1951
- Description:
- Discusses Sutton becoming a landlord; the illness of Pee Wee Russell reported in 'Time' magazine; whether to get in contact with Ruth Bowman; and sending a ts of 20 poems to a printer (became 'XX Poems'). At one point there is a great contrast in the tone of the letter, with Larkin feeling like his life is standing still, and then going out for a drink and writing more of the letter on his return. (6pp). Contains illustrations of Sutton painting whilst talking to an old woman who is leaning in his window; and of Larkin leaping over a sign saying `Danger'.
