- Discusses what the house he is living in is like, and destruction by bombs; the selection for a book of his poems, which he is calling 'Chosen Poems' (DPL2/1/5), including 'There Is No Language Of Destruction' quoted in full (CP, p.249), and referring to the 'New Year Poem' (CP, p.255); and his frustration at not being able to listen to a radio programme featuring Sidney Bechet. (20pp) Part is printed in the Selected Letters, pp 11 - 13. Contains a rough illustration of the stairs in the house where he was staying.
