- Discusses or refers to news that a friend of theirs, Tom (no surname is given), is in a prison camp; Larkin having started a second novel (became 'A Girl in Winter'); and how a work of art becomes meaningful when one discovers the structure, and is often great if the structure is great. Ends the letter with Horatio's words to the dying Hamlet - "Good night sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest" (V, II, 370). (8pp). Contains a rough illustration of Sutton jumping off a troopship; and one titled `Man, Woman and Guitar'.
