Includes letters patent of 1609 granting to Francis Morrice and Francis Phelips lands and tithes formerly belonging to monasteries and ecclesiastical offices in about 130 places in England. Land and tithes in the East Riding include some in Scarborough, Filey, Ottringham, Whitby, Skipwith, York and Beverley, though there are also some from as far afield as the Isle of Wight. In the early nineteenth century some of this property came into the hands of Gilyatt Sumner and this collection contains other items relating to him.
