A jazz opera based on the life of the jazz saxophonist Lester Young, concerning his induction into the army, the following court martial and his musical decline. Contains information relating to Lester Young, including a copy of gally proofs for 'Lester Young' by Lewis Porter, to be published by G K Hall & Company, Boston in 1985; photocopies of other articles; photocopies of papers relating to Lester Young's court martial for possession of drugs (1945); various notes by Alan Plater on 'Prez'; a letter from Bernie Cash to Alan Plater (2 Aug [1985]); two draft scripts for 'Prez!' including material for additional sequences, lyrics and manuscript notes, interleaved in a copy of transcriptions by Bernard Cash of 25 of Lester Young's tenor saxaphone recordings, published by Great Jazz Solos Revisited Ltd (c. 1980); also interleaved in above, a signed copy of the licensing agreement between Alan Plater and Bernie Cash and Hull Truck Theatre (12 Apr 1985), and a programme for the production of 'Prez' at Hull Truck, Spring Street Theatre.
