This is a dialogue between Howes, and a Bidayuh of Padawan, who was a catechumen who never became a Christian. In the course of the conversation, the latter explained the annual agricultural cycle, and the close relationship it has to the Dayak animist religion, with rituals and ceremonies for the benefit of the work and the community. To abandon his ancestral religion would have cut him off from his own community, he said
