The UK's oldest armed forces charity was established in 1885, after an appeal for funds and volunteers to care for families left at home was made by Major James Gildea; a member of the Second Expeditionary Force departing for Egypt. Three months after this appeal, the Soldiers' and Sailors' Families Association was born. In 1919 it became a registered charity and was renamed the Soldiers', Sailors' and Airmen's Families Association (SSAFA), following the creation of the RAF in 1918. After the merger of the SSAFA and the Forces Help Society in 1997, the charity was renamed SSAFA Forces Help.

The SSAFA Forces Help aids former and serving members of the UK's armed forces, as well as their families, offering financial and welfare support to those in need. The charity's headquarters are in London with branches at county level. The East Riding County Branch had its first Annual General Meeting in 1952.

Description:

This collection contains one volume of minutes for the SSAFA East Riding Branch. The minutes were stuck onto pages and bound in sections into the book but are now loose. The main focus of the minutes is on financial and organisational issues of the branch.
