Description
- Admin History:
The Albion press is a model of early iron hand printing press, originally designed and manufactured in London by Richard Whittaker Cope (d. 1828?) in 1820 and continued to be made until the 1930s. They were used for book printing until the mid 19th century and subsequently for proof and private presses. The toggle-action, and the distinctive shape and 'crown' finial of the Albion, make it instantly recognizable.
The press in the Brynmor Jones Library is believed to date from 1833.
