Arthur Scott was probably born in Hull in 1869. He later married and had two children. He was the manager and chief sales clerk for a large firm of produce importers in Hull, for which he worked for over 30 years. The company's speciality was the pickling and storing of eggs in Russia. His exploits in Russia during the First World War, as detailed in this collection, ensured that the company did not go bankrupt. The firm was probably Sellers and Short or Soulsby and Wood Ltd.

He was subsequently sent by the Government to Egypt and ultimately ran his own successful food import company.

Photocopy of the typed memoirs of Arthur Scott, concerning his trip to Russia between August and December 1914. It details his eventful experiences in Russia and the difficulties of exporting and importing foodstuffs during the Great War.
