Skipsea Benevolent Friendly Society, also called the Poor Man's Friendly Society, was formed in 1865-1866. It met monthly at the Board Inn, and held an annual feast day in the village. The Society was wound up in 1973-1974.
Description:
This small collection contains the Rules of the Society, Minutes (incomplete) for 1864-1930, Records of individuals' contributions, along with payments made to members. A large amount of the material present concerns the winding up of the Society in 1973-1974. U DX294/5 includes detailed minutes concerning the legal arrangements for the dissolution of the Society, and a bundle of correspondence [U DX294/15] provides further details on this.
