Admin History:
The township of Anlaby was part of the original County of Hull until 1836. The civil parish was created in 1866, and was incorporated into the Haltemprice Urban District Council in 1935. The Women's Voluntary Service (W.V.S.), founded nationally in 1938, was particularly active during World War Two. The 'Wings for Victory' was a fund raising scheme whereby communities were encouraged to raise money for either Spitfires or bombers such as Wellingtons or Lancasters. Clementine Churchill, wife of Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Madame Maisky, wife of the Soviet Union's Ambassador, came on a fund raising visit to Hull in 1942.
