Reference to Jones having sent a parcel of bed linen, seeing a chandelier in Woolworths, it being dusk outside with a description of the park, returning to work at the library and colleagues Miss Moon, Wood and Betty, letter from Covers, letter in The New Encounter, noise made by 'the Wickses' in the flat below, depression is 'the only subject or emotion in view' and reflects on the same, musings about children and his father, having bought and read 'On the Contrary' with fair enjoyment.
