Reference to having just been on the point of arranging to visit Philip [Larkin] when the writer and Valerie heard of his death, saw Jones at the memorial service at the Abbey but others had a prior claim in speaking to her, meeting promoted by the writer to commemorate Larkin's memory, University wanted to launch an appeal and writer tried to persuade them it should be national not just Hull based, thinks Larkin would have approved ironically, if Jones strongly disapproves the writer will stop the project.
