Reference to Philip [Larkin] having rung about Jones having been hospitalised with shingles, weather foul in Durham and having been one of the nastiest springs the writer can remember, visit to Leicester a fortnight ago, visit to Oxford to speak at a conference after Leicester, invitation to visit Tom, Wendy on way to Aberdeen and has been to Venice, will be moving house on 13 May 200 yards down the road, goat staying at The Grey Tower, on Sabbatical Leave, sat in the kitchen writing about the Romantic poets, visit to Manchester just before Easter for the Critical Quarterly conference, Bill at Newcastle for a conference, television programme about West Auckland miners football team, John Betjemen, Kingsley [Amis].
